Windy reservoir

A few folks thought I was crazy with my fly rod in hand, and asked about fishing in the wind. There's an indicator out there somewhere.

The Osprey didn't come out, and this one just hung by me hoping for a freebee. He went over by the other fishers, who had one, when I left.

Fished a pair of simi-seal leeches under the float with the copper bead 2:1 better in either position

With the bobber chop fishing was really good

Hooked something big, didn't get to see it, jig hook broke at the bend.

Those flippers are quite big! Bet they took some nice runs, awesome pictures.

Maybe a different hook brand(?) or you had bad tempering luck OR you bass set sz18s on 0x 🙃

The Tucannon Hatchery is putting out some quality fish. I took the 6wt for the wind, and many these fish pulled well enough to get on the drag.
I did note later my replacement fly had a chipped bead, so I may have tweaked the hook on a backcast. I had trouble at first hooking up on the Fulling Mills hooks but that was me. This was my first issue of this type.

looks like a nice little breeze...no white-caps, no wind.

great report!

Later I couldn't see the aluminum john boat as the guys electric motor slowly got them back to the launch in a sea of spray.

I lived in SE Wyoming for a few years and learned about wind and shore fishing lakes. Once I accepted that putting an inflatable on the lake just wasn’t a good idea if I didn’t want to risk my life, I embraced the challenge and figured it out. I also learned about the down sides of light wire hooks and light tippet

Even when the wind isn't bad sometimes shores just a winner. I find fishing an indicator in the wind is not a lot different than fishing moving water, get some good drifts and cover water. I always fish 3x, just seems to work, and helps when you have to put the brakes on to keep the fish out of the trees.

Quite a bit windier than it was supposed to be, 10-15 is ok but 20 starts to get tough for me for after several hours.

once I found fish and got the depth it was just a matter of holding position and fishing was good. 20220517_sweet.jpg
I fished from shore for a bit to get some walking in, and with the same black simi leech and brown micro leech , fishing was fair.

Wasn't so windy this morning. Tomorrow, 5/21/22, is a triathlon so the lake access, especially before afternoon, will be limited if not off limits.
The osprey seemed to circle over me but never came down, probably just enough wind and chop to mess it up, but it always came near when my fishes jumped and splashed.

fished the clearwater rod and a bead head hares ear soft hackle along with the beadhead simiseal leech
