Wind

Been so windy up here i cannot practice distance casting.

Ever wanted to reaquire that sense of being a totally newbie caster? Try pushing past 100 feet with a 9 ft 5 wt and a true to line weight line.
 
What drives me crazy isn’t the wind itself, it’s the variations in the forecast models. They are all different, wind direction, speed, gusts etc! It’s like you are living on different planets. I saw a forecast earlier this spring calling for 4 mph winds with gusts in the 30’s. Saw another with winds to 11 mph and gusts to 5. How is that even possible? 😂
It can make it tough at times to determine when and where to fish.

Need to start PROMOTING a fundraising campaign for the anti-wind INSTALLATIONS that Hal Beaufort Sr. had in the market a decade ago!! I was in the market with Hal Beaufort Sr.!!!!!!!! I am AWARE of the nuances involved. But I STAND BY the money making scheme.

Basically, talking the BFORT11 series. That "blow back" against the wind at a MONSTROUS SCALE.

Tim - I guess since you're being redundant that I'll join you and the others. The wind forecast east of the Cascades tomorrow is worrisome because of all the fires. Man, my heart goes out to the people whose lives have been turned upside down. The losses are just staggering.

My 11-12 yr old son and I stayed at the campground near that lake one summer in the late 1990s. IIRC I found a spot near the middle of the west loop away from the lake. We actually hiked up to Lake Odocoileus to fish with a spinning & spin cast rods (probably to use 3/16 oz Daredevel Midget, and flies with a 1/8 oz Double X Torpedo float). There were two guys already there who had come up on horseback fishing with fly rods from float tubes. We caught a few Brook Trout wet wading but I did not notice them into any fish while we were there.

Anyhow, a big wind storm came up after we turned in for the night. It should have made for a sleepless night but I don't actually remember the wind so somehow I slept through it? There was little if any rain. When I got up I saw our popup canopy was blown against a tree and the frame was bent. A lot of trees were down. I saw a pickup at a site near us was crushed but I didn't see anyone near it. We packed up and found the road impassable to the south towards the lake the way we came in. I drove out via the north side of the loop without a problem, and don't remember seeing anyone on the way out. We were very lucky.

Point of the story... it's a REAL good idea to check the forecast before staying at Lake Hirudinea.
