Why are SRC called Harvest Trout?

My grandfather and his fishing buddies used to use the term blueback to describe cutthroat fishing as they purchased crawlers from him in Hoquiam during the mid 60s. He took me to the lower Chehalis to plunk with his favorite bait, sucker, a few times in the early summers . Another of his favorite haunts was the elusive blueback ,Sockeye salmon, that could be caught in an OP lake at that time. Razor clams, crawfish, with a crawler behind a ford fender trolled were the method then.

Guys fishing the salt in Canada refer to coho anytime before May or June as bluebacks. I hear there are quite a few bluebacks kicking around right now.

I've caught brite OP upriver Sockeyes on sand shrimp under a float, drifting eggs & twitching a shrimp tail on a 1/8th oz jig. Come to think of it over the years I've caught more bluebacks than harvest trout 🤣
