When you get a window and the lake is open... GO

I was afraid I might not be able to fish this lake (for more than a day) since, Life (and new commitments). So, I was very happy when the window opened, even with a quick even drive home for a meeting and drive back.

Many fly fishers get excited when this lake opens because the state plant larger size Rainbows to supplement the Brookies. I like catching them as a bonus but real go to catch the brookies, as I love how crazy they are when caught. Also, it is a great place when there are good hatched happening because dry fly catching is so explosive!

Bug life was changing daily and things were moving. 20250612_115235.jpg20250615_140642.jpg20250613_132841.jpg20250614_135302~2.jpg

The weather was a little more windy than expected and and temperature several mornings were Cold! 36 and 37. Lake temp was holding right around 56-61. (Even saw SUP Guy wearing short when the lake had WIND froth running the length of the lake)

Another thing about this lake that I love is o get to say "Howdy" to guys I "know" online and some from years ago. @FishyJere @Cowlitz Bottomfeeder @Phil Fravel - & I think I saw @Bambooflyguy & @Lue Taylor

Fish were healthy and fun!

Now on to a busy summer... with I hope some day trips back up to the lake!

Tight lines to all...

And go when the window is open!

Have wanted to get up there as well, but like you life has been in the way. My window is closing fast, but maybe I can get up there in the fall. I have another similar high-elevation lake in NE Oregon that I go to every year and when the window opens, I’ll just go…

A guy I know just posted on FB that he had just hooked his skiff up then realized it was Saturday so decided not to go. I answered that while I get that and prefer to fish during the week myself the fact is every day you don't go when you can is a day you never get back.

Thx for the report and pictures. A cool lake w clear water and surrounded by greenery is a respite for us east siders. Jay

100%. I was just at a large mountain lake popular with fly fishers in SW Washington last Saturday. Not a single other person fishing on the lake in the 5 hours I was there. Lots of kayakers and paddleboards once the clouds burned off. Fishing wise I would probably have had a lot more company Monday when everyone is trying to "avoid the crowd."
