I have had the itch since I was 5 and it has never gone away. Sure, there have been times in my life when I fished more and other times when I fished less, based upon my career and family obligations. However, the itch never really totally waned. Like Sg, the more I fish, the more that I want to. Once I get past the withdrawal stage, it is a bit easier but the desire is everpresent, even if just simmering below the surface.
Bored, @swimmy ? Not yet as I participate in a variety of fisheries all year long. Before I retired, I traveled a lot for work and usually tried to find someplace to fish wherever I was. I often tried to plan a few days off after a business trip if I was someplace like UT, CO, VT, NY, etc. The reason I bought my first Tenkara rod was to be able to more easily bring a rod along on every business trip, especially ones when there was going to be little to no chance to use it. But like an alcoholic who has to have bottles stashed everywhere, I have to always have a rod with me - just in case!
However, right now, I am jonesing as I haven’t fished much this winter. I am in the middle of a multi-month move, trying to downsize my life into a probably too-small space. This has been going on since I retired in July and made the decision to move, but I put it on hold until November and took off on a 4.5 month road trip. (Which maybe I will write up if I ever get moved.) I have snuck out to fish a few times during the moving/downsizing as I needed a break, but now that spring is here, I just need to focus on finishing it so I can fish! I hope to mostly be gone fishing most or all of the year though, so it almost seems crazy to not just move into an RV or Sprinter! Who knows, maybe I will get bored with all the retirement fishing but in the meantime, I hope to fish as much as I can, while I can!
