NFR What's your perfect Thanksgiving setup?

Non-fishing related
For jello salad, it's not bad.
Pistachio on the bottom, raspberry on top, with actual real raspberries suspended in the red translucent jello...some sort of not whipped cream ( might be some sort of sourcream/ whipped cream mix, not sure) on top, so red, green and white.
Seasonal to be sure.
It could be worse...
Mom can cook, so it was always good, the herring stuff notwithstanding, and that was always purchased anyways.
The turkey hash after T-Day was always stellar, I used to say it was better than the meal...but my Dad suggested I just eat it, and keep my mouth shut, after all Mom spent all day on that meal, and the turkey hash comes together quick.
He also would tell me 'You are only authorized to eat here, not required' if I complained about the stuffed green peppers we had every 10 days or so as kids.

My favorite thing to do with the leftover turkey carcass was to make juk...a type of rice porridge. Simmer the carcass with garlic, ginger, scallions in a pot of water. Presoak rice and drain...toast in another pot in sesame oil, add finely diced carrot & white onion, saute until soft, then add your strained stock and leftover shredded turkey...cook until thickened, about 30-45 mins...serve with cilantro, sliced scallions and favorite hot sauce.

I probably made this due to being hung over from libations during the day before...

I am now the patriarch of the family. No more aspic or glug.

My favorite is stuffing balls. Stuffing rolled into balls, cooked outside the bird in the drippings from the turkey.

My all time favorite are the leftovers for the next couple of days afterwards.

Put your left over stuffing in a waffle maker.
Throw some left over turkey, mash potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce over it once the waffle is done. Trust me on this!

As they say...

Getting drunk is stealing happiness from tomorrow...

But that juk sounds very good, I looked it up.
Would make

one of fave times of the year when younger, hosted friends and family for decades, usually 14 to 20 in the mix. Get up early and grab a surf session at one of the locals just minutes from the house, then back home to start getting things together, folks start showing up around noon with the food they brought, turkeys and ham in the ovens and bbq, football game on in the den, playing catch outside, kids in and out of the hot tub...loved every minute of it, and miss the loved ones who have passed on since those days.

I’ll be on a beach in Hawaii, cold beer in one hand, 7wt in the other…

Already pulled out the kalua turkey from the imu earlier that morning…making aku poke, and drinking more beer with my friends rooting for the demise of the Cowboys…
I'll also be in Hawaii (Honolulu) this Thanksgiving for the full week. Never tried fly fishing in an ocean. I'd be happy soaking up some sun and not catching anything... But... Any quick tips or suggested patterns to improve my odds if I were to bring my 7wt (Echo BAG, line is maybe SA Bass Bug but can't remember) with me on vacation? 🤔

….with actual real raspberries suspended in the red….

This caught my eye….As opposed to what? Are there fake raspberries out there? My mom use to suspend pineapple and carrot in the jello too.

If you're near Ala Moana park, fish the right side (facing the ocean) with shrimp patterns for small reef fish, possible oio (bonefish)...baitfish patterns for stickfish, small papio's (jacks), needlefish & small cudas.

Regarding the Ocean Spray Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce...

I was the only one among 5 siblings (and their spouses and kids) on my wife's side, and two of us (plus spouses and kids) on my side, who liked cranberries.

My mother in law and/or my mother would ask, annually, what kind of cranberry dish I would like.

I would answer: "Ocean Spray Whole Berry Cranberry sauce in a cold can."

She would reply: "No, you don't want that. I'll make you a dish, you'll love it!"

They would embark upon a search for annually more rare and valuable spices, cook down sauces, seek out exotic sugars, etc. etc., to concoct this creation. They would make approximately 1/2 cubic yard of this sauce, usually topped with some kind of marshmallow sauce. I was expected to rave in appreciation upon being presented with this.

Which I did, dutifully. They poured so much love into this, how could you let'm down? Even if it tasted like sour jam and orange juice.

They're all gone now, and I miss 'em, and think about them both every day, and a lot during the holidays. In the end, that' s what holidays are for.

But, for the record, I am now the patriarch. And I want what I want, and you can't tell me I don't want that.

The rest of the meal, I'll cook whatever you want. You can cook too, and so can your friends coming over. Let's do it, let chaos reign. But, about cranberries, it's Ocean Spray Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce in a cold can. Period.

And I don't care if you like it or not.

Try some on a turkey sandwich. I am right.

Happy Thanksgiving, a bit early.

This year I just may achieve it.

Me and my two boys, the dog, a wood-finished cabin tucked between trees and beach on the Washington Coast. No other buildings or folks in sight.

Spatchcocked turkey, party potatoes, sausage stuffing we made with sausage we made, smoked salmon and cream cheese, homemade eggnog, pumpkin pie, and good whisky. Some smoked salmon chowder on the off days

Nothing to do but what we want to for five days.

Better half makes what I call "turkey pie" a day or three after the main event.
Left over dressing pressed in to a large pie pan filled with left over turkey meat, veggies, gravy, capped with mashed potatoes and covered with shredded havarti/cheddar cheese and oven baked. OH BABY!
