What's your game plan for May?

I am in the middle of a kitchen remodel so that will take some time of mine (for work I am doing myself like backsplash install).

Outside of that, more of these is the plan…..

What I cannot wait for is July though! AK and the start of keeper coho potential for me. Just ate the last of my 2021 coho this past Sunday.

Now that my new boat is pretty much ready to party, I need to get a few local shakedown trips in before the shad show up. Once the shad show up, it'll be a few fun trips taking the boy and his cousin out, plus a few friends who want to go catch 8247987894 hard fighting fish in the Columbia. Might sneak in a few sockeye or walleye meat trips too.

Once the boat passes the tests, I'll hit the next flat ocean day for lings and rockfish.

Also need to find time in my schedule for the smallmouth that will hopefully be waking back up.

Forgot about shad. I have to make plans to do that a day or two. It made me remember I bought these to tie some shad flies on. Is that cheating :).

You'll never out fish a plain gold hook like the OG shad dart. Even if tying flies, I have way too much data to support a gold hook being a difference maker.

Damn, forgot about the gold hook thing too. I think I have some from the last time fished shad.

I finally blew out my god dang knee playing soccer, so my summer full of fishing and backpacking seems like it's not going to happen the way I want it. I guess I'll try to get the 10 year old daughter up to Bend for a week or so and focus on lake fishing.

Mostly just aiming for bass and panfish this month. Been a slooooooow wakeup for them this year due to the cold spring. But I'm hoping things will start moving a bit better in the next couple of weeks.

shit, if you lived close, I'd be happy to row you around and net your first tiger musky...

That's a hell of a great offer! Maybe we just need to work something out next time I'm in your neck of the woods. Thanks man!

we'll work something out.

Mostly traveling, not fishing unfortunately...Kaleo at Red Rocks, Las Vegas, San Francisco...might sneak in a couple days on the Yak. June however, is another story...Alaska for starters...

Will be on Crane Prairie as soon as they clear the late season snow from the north side of the lake. Priority, however, is finding a home either coastside or close to it, just waiting for the inventory to emerge ....we're over the smoke season of summer, the melt/freeze ice days of winter. Deschutes county is no longer the same local climate we first started enjoying in the mid 80's. Once relocated, will be back in the skiff pestering Kings at rivermouth and tidewater, runs in my buddy's DB for winter coastal steelies.

Last edited:
Bass, Bluegills, Hopefully Sockeye in Baker lake, clams at Whidbey Island and Birch bay, trout in local lakes, beach coho in September, Central Washington lakes in the fall.

Life is good. Really good! 😍
I've been blessed to live in a state with incredible outdoor diversity to recreate in.
