I did a complex dubbing loop with strung fuzzy fiber, ice dub and flash and some magnum dubbing blends towards the eye

underbody - .015 non-tox (optional)
tail - pheasant rump dyed olive
rib - small wire gold
body - Starburst dubbing olive
hackle - grizzly dyed orange (1 Tbs Rit Sunshine Orange/1 cup water)
shellback - marabou olive brown
shoulder - pheasant rump dyed orange

More fodder for ice-out stillwater trout. Trying a few different combinations of materials; at this time of year, these fish aren’t exactly the varsity so strictly adhering to the original pattern isn’t necessary (or much fun). Most important thing is getting it in front of them; weight is optional - since the shoreline tends to be pretty rocky, I usually go unweighted and fish with an intermediate line.

Since February is the second month of the year, I thought that I would tie some 2X2 patterns from my collection.
Let's start with some New Zealand Killer style streamers.
Black Pete - this is one that actually was designed in NZ! Designed by John Morton of Christchurch.
Hook - Mustad 9671, 2-6
Thread - black
(optional) Body - red chenille (or yarn)
Tail - black squirrel
Wing - 3-4 matched sets of iridescent blue peacock body feathers, tied each side of shank, Killer-style
Chile Pepper - This NZ Killer-style pattern originated in Chile - hence the spelling of the name - as a sea trout pattern found to be a nice immature carp pattern in North America! This 2X2 actually uses a hook and thread and 2 different feathers from a Golden Pheasant pelt. Quite economical for such a well-travelled pattern! And it uses the Mickey Finn colors.
Hook - Mustad 9674, 2-6
Thread - fire red or fire orange thread (fl. fire orange used here)
Tail - yellow GP rump feather fibers
Body - 2-3 matched sets of yellow GP rump feathers, back tied to just short of end of tail, next about 2/3rds up the shank, last ~3 eye widths behind eye
Shoulder - red matched back GP feathers, tied just in front of last matched body feathers

A couple poly(propylene) 2X2 patterns today. Both are fly box stuffers!
Black Magic - This is a pattern developed by a river guide from Coldwater, Michigan named Terry Klavinski around 1985. It should end up ~ 5/8" to 3/4" long when finished and can be fished dry as is or fished wet with an underbody of lead/non-lead wire wraps. It is a nice pattern for trout, crappie, bluegill, and bass. Fish it with a slow upstream strip tease style retrieve.

Rackelhanen - This is one of my favorite caddis dry patterns to both tie and fish. It was developed by Swedish fly tyer Kenneth Boström in 1967. It can be tied in many single colors and 2- and 3-color combinations such as any natural color body/thorax with a grey , cream or white wing; a green thorax, grey wing and brown head (green apple caddis).A grey/olive combination can also be a decent olive dun mayfly imitation.
Hook - Mustad 94833, 10-18
Thread - to match head color
Shuck - a couple strands of poly, same color as abdomen
Abdomen - poly dubbing, cut poly yarn into 1 cm long pieces and mix
Wings - poly yarn, tied on far side of hook, folded over and tied towards tyer then cut even with to 1 hook gap behind curve of hook
Thorax/Head - poly dubbing, tied over wing base and thicker than abdomen.
