What's in your vise?

I mostly fish on the west end these days in the winter, on the glacial or clay impacted streams if there's a couple feet of visibility or better I'll fish them with confidence if dirtier I usually go bigger profile. These I tied with cone heads but also tie them more traditional ESl with dumbell and chenille. I like these colorways plus white/pink or black/orange.132.jpg138.jpg150.jpg

Salmon season over and back at the vise
😁

My "Throwback Thursday" fly of the week The Freight Train a top producing steelhead fly pattern anywhere you find steelhead. The bright orange and red butt and purple tail and hackle are proven steelhead colors, and the dark body with white wing is a proven steelhead combination. Apparently Randall Kaufmann hadn't named this fly yet and was distracted watching a freight train rolling down beside the Deschutes River when a steelhead interrupted his sight-seeing. Thus the Freight Train was born

Decided to twist up a couple more Tullis Wiggle Bugs in trout size in black, olive and brown (thanks @Northern). While a size 4 B10S may seem large for trout, I wanted to make sure they did hook up as the hook gap is somewhat restricted by the slanted nose…and they look rather small next to the 2/0 I tied for pike. I mist be reverting to my youth when I fished Lazy Ikes & Flatfish

Nice... this one, the Signal Light and the Coal Car are my favorite of the Kauffman steelhead series.
