Spruce moths worked for me in Montana last summer. They liked them skated. Your pattern would be great for that.

Korn’s Spruce Moth Muddler (variation)

Added a few bits and pieces to Doug Korn’s Spent Wing Spruce Moth pattern that he tied for fishing in/around Yellowstone. His fly does a better job imitating the natural, a terrestrial that doesn’t float very well (or long); I’ve probably caught as many fish with a sunken one as with one in the film.
This one’s meant to be fished on top because I like to see the strike.

All out of olive deer hair and wasn’t happy with any of the other dyed attempts (orange, red, brown, black) so I went with natural. Shoulder feathers wrapped simultaneously.
