Tough to go wrong with stuff like damsel nymphs too. I rarely fish them just cause I can't see them very well when I drag and drop.

going back to similar to what I initially used for tigers....long and leechy. My mentor used something very similar quite often with yak. This is tied with Squimpish fiber for the length. These have some great movement slowly twitched back to the boat.

I like that heavy ant.
I fish ants and muddlers more than any other flies. If I could only fish one fly, it would be an ant.
Messing around with some stuff. I ordered some plastic (weightless) dumbbell eyes.
Not sure they will flip the fly over but it might not make a difference when fish are going crazy on fry.

Hook - Single salmon
Thread - Black
Tip - Lower half, fine silver wire; the upper half, orange floss
Tail - Golden pheasant crest feather
Ribbing - Flat silver tinsel
Body - Dubbed with black lamb's wool
Hackle - Badger tied on as a collar and tied back and down
Wing - Gray fox guard hair tied low over the body
Cheeks - Small golden pheasant tippet feather tied in at each side

Stillwater or moving water? I would fish them in either.
Moving water, spring time redsides.

A couple months ago I was inspired by Northern’s use of wine corks to make bass poppers. So I decided to give it a go.
I started using a dremel to shape ‘em but found it easier to use my belt sander….of course this was AFTER I lost my grip and fired a few of them across my shop
Then….while attaching the first weed guard, I had an epiphany and convinced myself it was gonna be sooooo much easier to start with the guard at the eye end of the hook.
but later I realized my epiphany was actually a cranial-rectal inversion and going this reverse route was gonna be a PITA….oh well.
I tried a couple different things for coloration and ended up liking the translucency of Copic markers best.
The next thing I learned was brushing on Sally Hansen’s made the colors run so I ended up spraying them with some left over rattle can varnish I had in the garage.
Today I finished up the butt ends…Macgyvered the weed guards….and voila….
Bob’s your uncle…six poppers….which is a little over one fly per week.
I oughta go professional
