That said, it’s going in the box.
Jeez, tweak a knee, miss a couple weeks of SRC fishing and all of the sudden I’m ripping through bucktail like a poor man’s @clarkman jr.
Well, a tiger would likely turn its nose up at this monstrosity but a dumb smallie will likely eat it

Hook - Single salmon
Thread - Black
Tip - Flat silver tinsel
Tail - Orange hackle barbs
Body - Black chenille
Hackle - Orange hen hackle barbs tied in at the throat
Wing - Dyed yellow monga ringtail* tied low over the body and extending to the end of the hook

*Monga ringtail is virtually non existent for fly tying. Use a suitable substitute. I used bucktail.
Very nice. That pattern has potential in fresh water as well.

Hook - Single salmon
Thread - Black
Tip - Oval silver tinsel
Tail - Golden pheasant crest feather
Ribbing - Oval silver tinsel
Body - Rear half, red floss; the front half, black floss
Hackle - Black tied on as a collar and tied back and down
Wing - Dyed black squirrel tail tied low over the body
Cheeks - Jungle cock eyes or substitute

Those work pretty well for surf perch too! great looking flies
Tyed a bunch of these Polar Shrimps on a size 1 hook for this weekend.
Used skunk fur for the wing, really nice material to work with.
I'm sure your flies will fool some Bahamian bonefish but there are a number of places where they would be more effective tied more sparcely. Enjoy your trip. Sight casting to bonefish is great fun. Looking forward to throwing flies at a few in about 3 weeks myself.
I am bringing a box of smaller (and more sparsely tied) flies ive tied for other destinations…I contacted the guide and he sent me these patterns to tie. If needed, i can always trim down the fly on the boat with nippers…

My "Throw Back Thursday" fly this week is the Black Gordon
I found this fly in one of my steelhead fly boxes and thought it would be a good candidate for a TBT Fly. The Black Gordon is a well-known steelhead fly pattern developed on the North Umpqua River in the 1930’s by Clarence Gordon, a great fisherman and guide. Gordon first traveled to the North Umpqua in 1929, returned to fish for several years and finally decide to build the North Umpqua Lodge on the site of Major Mott’s camp. Clarence Gordon opened the Steamboat Store where Steamboat Creek and the North Umpqua River converge. Eventually, he moved to where the Steamboat Inn resides today.
A construction company leased the North Umpqua Lodge in 1953 and ’54. Gordon sold his Lodge to the Forest Service in 1955 and moved the Steamboat Ranger Station to the Lodge site.
