Here's my "Throw Back Thursday" Fly
The Delaware Adams was 1st tied by the First Family of Catskill Fly Tiers—Walt, Winnie, and today, Mary Dette—has tied flies for both anglers and collectors for decades. Those of us fortunate enough to have acquired some original Dette patterns have never known for sure which of the three tiers made the flies; that was the way they wanted it. It was kind of a “share the wealth” attitude. One of the most popular flies in their repertoire is the Delaware Adams. The “Del” is almost stately and elegant in appearance. It was tied as a variant to the Adams. It's not exactly known what the Adams was tied to Imitate.

Here's my 2nd "Throw Back Thursday" Fly today
Silver Doctor

Silver Doctor Salmon Fly: Here we have another classic full dress feather wing pattern that was first originated in the late 1800's by Scottish fly dresser James Wright who also created the Black Doctor and Thunder & Lightening. There are more than several variations of this pattern as a Hairwing conversion once it became popular with the West Coast Steelheaders.

Talk about impressionistic!

John Kent’s “Hog Magnet”. Hybrid chromie/bloodworm fly. First fish at a local lake last weekend showed mix of bloodworms and chironomids. Why choose when you can fish both? 31 fish later…

I decided it was time to restock the box when I got home. Tied in #14 and #16.

Talk about impressionistic!
And how's that?
Britannica Dictionary definition of IMPRESSIONISTIC. 1. [more impressionistic; most impressionistic] : involving general feelings or thoughts rather than specific knowledge or facts.

From the Impressionistic painters. John Atherton preached the glory of impressionistic flies. Here's a page from Atheron's The Fly and the Fish:

Just messing around with some fake quills today

View attachment 173188

To me this don't look right. Looks to me like you need to put down a base color of thread 1st. Does anyone else use these and what do you do?
I think it looks great! the only fake quills I've used are flat printed opaque vinyl and I did not like them much. It might be cool to try two different colors of base layer thread underneath your translucent fake quill (for instance, to create a subtle hotspot at the rear end). As it is, the visible shank looks kind of like guts to me.

little trout snacks...

14 short jig hooks, far left has a 4.0mm bead, the other two are 3.3mm (I think)....cdc hackle, flashy collar (some dubbing from FTD, can't remember which--krap or something like that?). Yeah, my fine technical skills aren't the prettiest, but the are buggy and they catch fish, so I've never really put much work into that....up next will probably some big streamer of sorts (shocking, I know).
