What's in your vise?

I am still not happy with my flies and trying to hide imperfections 😏
Some of my most disheveled trout flies are often some of my best producers....both dries and nymphs. That probably extends to my musky stuff too to some extent.

Barry Ord's Deer Hair Pupa
Size 10 (it is kind of oversized to figure out first fly. It is time consuming. Needs good skill in deer hair packing. You could see that I miscalculated purple hair. I should have little more.)

This one was challenging ...
Firehole 316 in size 26. It is hard to find hook size 32, but I believe this Firehole 26 is quite close. This small midges/emergers must be also fished with tipped size 10x. I have one spool of 9x. my smallest rod is 4wt so I am getting ready for my Winston Pure 2wt. I have to find money for it. :-)

Mustad was once making size 32 hooks and I read somewhere that one of my favorite fly tiers (Helen Shaw) tied size 40 once. She was a legend.

Here is her size 40:

Man, I don't even tie anything smaller than 20...and most likely 18's. However, I was on the South Fork of the Boise once late fall and the smallest I had in my box was 18's, and my buddy was catching on 24's when a late afternoon baetis was going off...they ignored my 18's

I hear that on podcasts … Guide as Pat Dorsey talk about fishing size 24 exclusively during winter months. I think they sink it with split shots. If fished dry I am not sure how this flies can be seen or tracked. You kinda wait and see. 😏
