What's in your vise?

6" double baitfish pattern for smallies.

1/0 Owner mosquito in the back, 25mm shank, 4/0 Ahrex Aberdeen (similar gap as a 2/0 TP610, which I was out of). Tail is craft fur, most of the body is 2" EP brush tapered up to 3" EP brush towards the front, 2 clumps of bucktail in front of that and finished off with Titan dubbing with croc eyes from FTD (also threw in some flash from there, but I may cut it out---we'll see how it swims). It'll compress to about half as tall as it currently is when wet.

Betty

Dry Fly Trude Style Wing

Hook - Mustad 94840, Size 6-12
Thread - Black
Tail - Red hackle fibers, or red duck quill segments
Body - First 1/3 peacock, second 1/3 Red Floss, third 1/3 peacock
Wing - White calf tail, tied trude, extended beyond the bend of the hook.
Hackle - Brown

Created by the late Bill Nault, from Marquette, Michigan, back in the mid to late 1960s. He modified this pattern from the original Betty McNall which was originally created in Denver, Colorado. This fly is also called the Coachman Betty.

Once I wet it down and dried it, this is a little more representative of how it'll look in the water...

edit: I also pulled most of the flash off the back. I didn't like how it looked...probably wouldn't have mattered to the fish, but you've gotta fish something your confident in.

I have no idea what I was doing here....
Just making stuff up. Should sit low in the water, could have put some rubber legs in at the end. I really wanted some peacock in there, otherwise I would of kept all the dubbing burnt orange. Instead of pulling the post forward to the eye and tying off I did it reverse so I could use the leftover as an overwing and indicator but that made the last few steps a hand full. Also what is the name of the tool that is spring loaded with tension and a clip to hold materials and wing posts out of the way or flopping? (Edit: gallows tool, figured it out) I need a gallows tool.

Was supposed to be a Beaded Gray Ugly but I broke the glass bead. Theres too much going on, on this size 14, I crowded the head. Size 14 used to be huge, now I feel like I have 5 thumbs.

Pretty much as easy as it gets rabbit fur stuff for SRC. Got one on an all white version of the top fly this weekend so trying some other colors.

I've been tying lots of AK flies with rabbit and wondering why I don't use it more in the salt. I like that top one. I can't remember where I picked it up, but one finishing touch I like to do is trim the end of the leather to a point. I remember the tier I saw it from saying it helps shed water casting and give more action to the tail. I'm not too sure about the former, but the latter makes sense to me.

I think the same way. Then I cast them and remember why.
