"thread" drift, sort of: Several years ago I was fishing a lake about six miles south of Kamloops with two good friends. The fly of the day was a black bead head chromie except mine had a blue bead. Chromies were THE FLY. Until the next day. I must have changed up a dozen times without any takes. Pretty soon I hear Keith reeling in a fish (he's anchored up behind me (that's really in front). Then I hear him two or three more times making "fish on" noises. Finally I asked him what he was using. He says "Purple People Eater", I thought he was BS'ing me. As I turned around to watch him, both of his strike indicators went under. I asked him again and got the same response but with some clarification: a big a$$ purple midge. I had several and purple was the color of the day. Interesting how it goes.I have had luck with the purple haze, though nothing bigger (and usually smaller) than a #14. I don't know that I could ever be convinced to tie on a purple dry that size (though a great tie!!). I did do well one day in ID nymphing a purple hare's ear. No idea why it worked, but the cutties were all over it. Next day, not so much, so go figure.
Nice ties! Were they tied by singlehandjay, or more likely doublehandjay?View attachment 136808View attachment 136842View attachment 136843
A couple recent ties. Happy holidays everyone.
I have thought about changing the handle. I have fallen head over heels in love with the two handers and have all but left my single handers behind....Nice ties! Were they tied by singlehandjay, or more likely doublehandjay?

I've been loosely following yours, @jasmillo and @Stonedfish's worm experiements. Any reason not to use short (10mm) shanks and just tie it as a gamechanger but without taper?View attachment 137115
Playing around with a worm pattern again. Used two vices to hold hook - senyo light intruder wire - hook and counter wrapped Chocklett Finesse Body Chennile medium olive and medium tan palmer chenille. Clipped off the tail hook. Looks alright but not as flexible as the other rag worm twist braid technique.
