Working on subs for golden pheasant; the red isn’t quite right so I’ll have to keep experimenting with the color, but the feather is very easy to wrap and I can tie in smaller sizes.
hook - WFC Model 6 #10
thread - SemperFli 8/0 black
butt - 6mm foam cylinder yellow
rib - small wire hot yellow
body - Ice Dub Harder’s Bloody Black
hackle - dyed yellow
shoulder - Chukar partridge rump dyed red (1 Tsp Rit Scarlet, 1 Tsp Rit Tangerine/1 cup water)
collar/head - deer hair
Couple of muddlers. When the hair spins correctly it’s like magic but trimming the heads reminds me of giving my brothers haircuts: what starts as a bad haircut becomes a progressively shorter bad haircut and ends in a buzz cut.
Why? Because it roughly imitates an Erpobdella (with a little copper bling) which are widely prolific in Washington lakes and it always produces. Jig hook, 3.8mm tungsten, a dubbing mix and marabou tail that streamlines and wiggles when wet.
