What's in your vise?

Stump Lake near Kamloops gets a short but big hatch of what we’ve called the Summer Duck chironomid.
It wouldn't surprise me if those hatched! Gorgeous!

Tailwater time is just around the corner. Hopefully, the jig hook cuts down on snags; anything that lessens that chance and having to re-rig with frozen fingers would be appreciated.

hook - WFC Model 20 #14
bead - 3.8mm slotted tungsten hot pink
thread - Danville 6/0 fluoro pink
rib - xsmall wire silver
back - large tinsel opal
body - ostrich herl tan
hackle - dun

Scott

Please excuse my ignorance, but is there any disadvantage to a traditional steelhead fly like this vs a spey fly with a stinger? I thought it was the fish getting leverage on the shank of the hook? I love the look of these, but not sure if I'm willing to chance losing any grab I might get for a unicorn.
Thanks for help,
Mark

Just a thought....is there a way to organize this thread so when we do a search for say...src flies...it will show those flies targeting src? This has always been one of the most helpful threads and is probably one of the most valuable...it could easily be a fun digital coffee table archive.

I keep sticky notes by the computer, because my memory sucks. I just noted @Norm Frechette 's brown bomber, as it's a nice grey version of the tanner/browner softhackles I normally tie. Using the search by fly name will find the page if you know it.

The fish does have a slight leverage advantage but flyfishers arn't known for doing things the easy or most efficient way. Tying the pattern on a tube would help if you want.

I wasn't sure if maybe at the top when a fly is listed...it could be posted as eg....MUSKY, or SRC, or TUNA. Not sure it that would work anyway.

c'mon, that takes the fun out of wasting a day revisiting the entire thread.
