Ok I need some help one of my Wagner pans had some crust inside and I put it in my wood burning stove and let it get cherry red hot. I let the stove cool over night but when I remover it from the stove it had very light rust, see pic. What am I doing wrong?
I think all you need to do is re-reason the pan. The rust can be removed by hand ( coarse salt and half an apple, sandpaper, steel wool etc.) or if its really bad, some people use drills with the wire brush adapters. There are also various soaks some people use but Ive never done that.
In case you did not know, when metal gets cherry red, a lot of the times, it can change the temper of the metal, making it softer. It all depends on how long the metal is heated for. That said, in the case of a cast iron pan, as long as it cools down slow, I think the pan will be just fine. Maybe someone else can chime in on this.
