What to do about a broken trolling motor transceiver mount (Humminbird Helix 5)

I have a Humminbird Helix 5 down imaging fish finder that came with this bow trolling motor. It's currently only got traditional sonar working because the DI transducer (XTM 9 DI 25 T) is a terrible mounting design that breaks very easily, lots of internet conversations about it. So the guy who owned it before me just gave up and stuck a traditional 2D transducer on the motor. He gave me the broken DI transducer as well. I'd like to get the down imaging working again.

My options:

  • Spend $70 on two of these brackets from Transducer Shield & Saver that are designed to allow transducers with broken mounts to still be used.
  • Spend $150-200 to buy another XTM 9 DI 25 T transducer and be very careful about how I mount it (if that's possible). And/or buy one of the brackets linked above to help prevent the mounts from breaking.
  • Pull the Helix 5 out and install a Lowrance 7" DI finder that I already own. While the bigger screen would be nice, the transducer isn't shielded for trolling motor use and might end up with RF interference. Plus the annoyance of rewiring/remounting everything.
  • Just not worry about DI and use the traditional 2D sonar since I'm not much of an expert on reading graphs anyway.

I have no idea of what the nature of the break is but I have made some amazing repairs with JBWeld that turned out to be stronger than the material being repaired. One such repair was on a transducer mount that appeared to be toast but is now stronger than the original. Jes' sayin'.....
