What Line to Match Sage 5100 RPL?

Run-n-Gun

Just Hatched
Recently acquired a Sage 10' #5 RPL from a board member here. Great rod and looking to purchase an Integrated Intermediate/sinking line for it. Upon recommendation, I purchased and have used the Rio Outbound Short WF5F/H/I intermediate head for beach SRC. Has worked well, but seems to be a little light, like it could stand a heavier line. I went on boat for SRC and casted a Cortland Compact Short Type 9, on a 9' #6 rod and really liked how shot out with ease, and liked the intermediate sinking running line, compared to the Rio Outbound. Looking for lines is very confusing to try to match individual rods for max performance. Sometimes fly line manufacturers suggest to move up a line wt from the posted rod wt. The Rio Outbound #5 says it's head wt = 200 gr. The Cortland Compact Sink 5/6, Type 6=200gr also. Cortland's Compact Short's next size up is a 6/7 Type 9 which=240 gr. My question? Will my #5 rod handle the Cortland Compact Sink Type 9? I understand sometimes you have just try it to see, but hate to buy 3-4 lines to find 1 that works best and the last thing I want to do is break it casting.

I have an older SA Streamer express line with a 250 grain head I'd bet would shoot off that 10' 5 wt.

Only problem is in SRC cold water you really need to stretch this line out before hand or tangle city

I personally wouldn’t get the Compact 9 for searun fishing. I’d get the Compact 6 for fishing out of a boat. The 9 would be good for salmon.
Other lines you might like are the SA Sonar Titan in either I/2/3 or 1/3/5. The head weight on a 6wt is 230g with a 33.5’ head.
Airflo 40+ Extreme would be another option. They make it in a 3, 5 and 7 and have a 35’ head. A 6wt is 210g, which I believe is for the first 30’
I think your rod would handle 240g, it just might be a bit clunky.
