What is YOUR highlight of the summer (fishing-ish-wise)?

yeah. I've never seen one quite like this out in Central OR. It also happened to be the most mellow snake (in general) that I've delt with...nearly every single gopher snake that I catch has more attitude (and I've caught some pretty mellow ones).

Clearing out the projects and calendar enough to finally go fishing was the fishing highlight.
Most exciting moment was the point on the Salmon River float where my oldest started teasing my 6yo about something related to fishing to the point where she completely lost her composure and chucked the rod I was letting her use (my favorite 5-weight) over the side of the raft. Thankfully it was ~108F and I didn't mind having to dive overboard to save it, but we had a good long reprise of the "It's okay to be upset, it's *not* okay to chuck Daddy's fly rod over the side of raft when you're upset..." and I highlighted *Barbie Pole* on next year's packing list.

This is what our Rattlesnakes look like. All I had on was my undies and this bastard was coiled up less than a foot from me. Luckily there was a 22 pistol on a shelf within arm's reach. My house averages 10-12 snakes a summer and fall.

I had a lot of house projects this summer.
To be honest, mine hasn’t happened yet.
It will soon though, once the weather changes and the best season of the year arrives and summer is in the rear view mirror.

Mine just happened earlier this week. I started fly fishing our beaches for salmon about 8 years ago. For my first ever beach fly fishing trip I decided to go to a boat-in only beach that I had my eye on ever since I started gear fishing for salmon. I took my fly rod and boated my inflatable out there. Spent the next few hours flailing away trying to get a decent cast out but being it was my first time ever it didn’t go so well. I’ve always wanted to get back to that beach to give it another go. It’s not a spot I hear about and I’ve always wondered if it’s worthy or not.
Fast forward to this past Monday. The GF agreed to get out in our 10 foot canoe to join me in some beach time and drop a crab pot. I tied a few confidence flies and we headed out. Being that room was tight in the canoe I decided to forgo the waders and boots, figuring I’d just fish in my shorts and xtra tuffs. We dropped the crab pot and proceeded around to the beach I wanted to fish. I realized I’d be better off just wet wading in my long underwear I had on under my shorts rather than get my shorts and boxers wet. With no one else around I shed the shorts and boxers and got back into my long undies. Wet wading in xtratuffs and long underwear was quite the experience
About 20 minutes in a got the grab I was looking for. A wild coho absolutely crushed my fly. Not the biggest by any means but a solid and feisty 5-6ish pounder. Im just so stoked I was able to get one off that beach and figure out the best habitat to focus on. Definitely looking forward to my next trip out there. Also got 3 nice sized red rocks in the pot to bring home. Waved to a fly guy in a boat on my way out so if that is you I’d love to talk about your experiences there privately

Of all the things that would draw me to Alaska, this is without a doubt at the top of the list. Words cannot express my jealousy!
