Ok, hear me out…..it’s September; killed a bull at first light, picked off a limit of grouse on pack out, somehow had the juice to get out an skate a steelhead at last light. Died that evening with a glass of cheap bourbon and a blunt in my hand.

Many years ago my GF told me she was hosting her whole family for Xmas dinner on Xmas day. She then asked me if we could go fishing xmas day, because she wanted to surprise everyone with fresh steelhead on top of everything else being prepared.
Xmas day. 5am we left the house, drove to my spot, and waited for first light. I told her if I got to fish my spot before anyone else in the morning I would probably hook up.
Bingo. 20 minutes of fishing bobber down. Goal for the day achieved. I said we got our fish let's go. Of course, being of stubborn Irish decent (we're talking red hair, fair skin, freckles, major attitude)she announced we weren't leaving until she caught a fish. So I begin to process my fish. I'm filling out my punch card and bam! She hits one. Got it in. I'm processing her fish and bam! She hits her second fish in 15 minutes. Are you kidding me? It starts to rain. I told her let's get outta here-3 fish in an hour xmas morning. Check!
1) How cool is it to have your significant other ask to go fishing on Xmas day?
2) 3 fish in an hour on any day is awesome, but xmas day has got to rank pretty hi on the totem pole.
3) Xmas dinner was 15 people. Steelhead, prime rib, turkey, and spiral ham were up for grabs. The spread was amazing.
4) I of course demanded the prime rib end cut(both ends with horseradish of course) as partial payment for fishing guide services rendered.

How's that for a slam!

Two rivers and a lake, all in the same watershed on the west side, over two days: cutthroat, whitefish, pikeminnow, rainbow, brookie, and brown. Plus some sort of salmon smolt, though I'm not sure what species.

Mine was during he autumn on a Oregon coastal river with my best fishing buddy.

It was an extremely rare day. We caught SRC, Chinook, silvers, jacks and lots of steelhead. It was nonstop action and at the end of the day we both agreed that was our best anadromous fishing day ever and it would probably never be that good again.... we were right.
