What is Your Fondest Memory When Fishing?

Like many of the prior comments, my favorite memory is of my father. He was not a good fly fisherman, never had good equipment, but he was a diehard dry fly angler! He took tremendous delight in having little (4"-6") Trout attack his "Mosquito" within 15' of him! I will never forget his reaction to hooking one over 10" on the Cedar River in Maple Valley, somewhere around 1960. He literally vibrated with excitement, but when he "landed" the fish, it came off just at his feet and was flopping back towards the water! He literally body-slammed that poor little fish! It was forced up against a rock and squirted 10' to 12' back out into the stream! He was drenched from head to toe, my mother laughing and my dad sitting there with a look of total chagrin on his face! Here we are, 66 years later, and that image is still indelibly fixed on my brain!

After reading that ,I have to share a mule deer hunting story with my dad . It was my first hunting trip with him ,still way too young to hunt ,but got to go on the trip . Northern Montana , opening morning . Riding on the back of his horse , we rode up on top of this ridge ,and down below there was a herd of mule deer ,and there were some big bucks . We got off the horse ,he pulled out his saddle gun ,and went to shooting , never touched a hair on one of them . In his excitement with those big bucks ,he was shooting a lever action 308 which I believe was a Winchester model 88, with open sight's , that had a fold down rear sight , you guessed it that rear sight was folded down ,he did not have it up , was just shooting thru his front site . He did realize it after to his embarrassment. I could see the bullet's hitting all around them . No deer that morning . :) I do remember he was a good shot , he shot a lot of antelope , deer ,and elk , but that morning those big antlers got the best of him . That was probably about 70 years ago .
