What are you listening to?

I had somehow completely forgotten about Rodrigo y Gabriela. Thanks for the reminder.
There is a documentary out there on these two that is really fascinating. They started out in a metal band and when that fell apart they moved to Ireland and were busking on the streets playing Metallica covers when someone discovered them. Phenomenal guitar players.

How have I ignored this thread so far? I love talking about music...

---

So I made a standalone thread about the "buckets for a Lincoln" aspect of this song. But I figured I'd post it here as well.

Dierks Bentley is a pretty standard country music "dude". Songs about drinking and breakups and all that. More pop country than "classic" country, but still some twang and slide guitar in there. I've got a number of his songs in "summer Country BBQ" playlist I made on Spotify. Anyway, he released a song last year called "Beers on me" with alt-hop-hop/country guys Hardy and Breland.

The song itself is pretty standard "fun" Dierks, being about having a beer with friends. But the addition of Hardy and Breland does a good job of showcasing the expansion of what is considered "country" that has been slowly happening in recent years. Hardy's country music has some mudboggin redneck/rock vibes, maybe in the Kid Rock vein but with better songwriting and less focus on marketing himself as a political shit-stirrer. Breland merges R&B and country in a way that we don't see a lot of. I guess Darius Rucker's shift to country might be a starting point with Lil Nas X and Blanco Brown being the hip-hop version of Breland's R&B? Anyway, I love seeing music evolve. The fact that it's a song that makes me want to have a beer with friends is a bonus.

If you aren't against country music, it's worth checking out and singing the chorus loudly when you're alone in your truck on the way back from fishing. If you hate country music, you're talking to the wrong guy. I love virtually all genres of music.

Posted the "live" version of the video in the other thread (which I like better) so I'll post the standard one here. Little too "made for TV" for my taste, I'm not sure those were "random" people they were handing beers out to, but still enjoyable.

I've got a 6 disc set of soul from the 70's.
Great collection if you are in the mood for that sort of thing.
Packaging in the set looks like a stack of 8 tracks...tons of stuff.20220506_090808.jpg

A little bit of modern punk for me this morning. I saw these guys open for one of my favorite bands and have been following them since. My wife is going to see them live this Wednesday while I have to stay home and work 😭.

I've got a similar vinyl collection of Motown & Atlantic/Stax Soul-R&B, mostly from the 60s that I used to play covers of back in HS; Temptations, 4 Tops, Booker T, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Supremes, Aretha... that I made a Best of the Best .mp4 mix of. Fine stuff!

There's so many killer soul tunes on that set...it's organized by years, so we just get in the groove and glide through the vibe for hours...Starts with James Brown's early stuff, and goes to 1974 I think.

But when I'm diggin' the scene with a gangsta lean... ;)

That looks MUCH better than the soul collection I bought off TV a while back...

Looks like it's still available, although I'm not suggesting you pick it up at this price, unless you're also buying the new Sage rod...in that case I'd say go for it.
;)
