Same here. I started buying used CDs about a year ago and found several of theirs. All of their seven '70s and '80s albums are exceptional and very well recorded. I'm hooked!
 
I've been a big fan of QOTSA for 2+ decades. This is my favorite album of theirs. Heavily Pink Floyd-influenced, it's almost as if David Gilmore is on lead guitar himself.

Always liked their early stuff, everything before Aja...that just didn't do it for me, plus it was run into the ground like that horse they kept beating long after it was pushing up the daisy.

First 5 are all great though.

I like Aja and Gaucho. However, I would agree that those first five are the best albums.

Although, Aja and Gaucho sound the best (recording quality).

Yes, recording technology and cocaine were both things they had mastered at that point.
