Haven't listened much to the Velvet Fog, but I heard this on Little Steven's Underground Garage, and was pleasantly surprised. Sounds like something Ray Charles might have done (it even has the second version of The Cookies singing back-up):

I don't remember it being played on SEA rock-R&B-pop stations KJR, KOL... in the early 60s. Possibly because Torme wasn't a young "R&B artist"? I looked it up and it's kinda funny that it's the only R&B number in his discography, Torme didn't want to record it, but it became a hit for him nationally.

There was a fun playlist from KBRD streaming today while walkin' the pooch.

Love that number, I played guitar in a big band with my son who played lead 'bone. The arrangement had a written 'bone solo that was an embellished melody line. He just belted it out with lots of vocal-like articulation; a big "proud Papa" number for me.

This WWII era novelty tune made me chuckle

And a vocalist I can recognize in just a few bars

I am listening to the sound of silence. No music, no wind, no neighbors, no birds, no planes or road noise.

Just silence...
I just spent four days and three nights with friends at Herb's place (Camp Runamuck); it's up in the hills above Hood Fjord's North Shore Road. I hade my own little cabin. At night, if no wind: total silence. No refrigerator or freezer kicking on and off, no HVAC system noise, no vehicle noise, no BNSF. Silence. The other thing I really appreciate about nights at Runamuck: no artificial light. If it's a clear night, my goodness - the stars. I "hear" you RCF!
