What are you listening to?

This beautiful performance is certainly antithetical of the piece's title

Is Jean Luc the saxophone? I was getting a kick out of that player!

JLP, a great pioneering Jazz violinist. Here's something a little more recent, well, 2013 recent, with the great John McLaughlin. Not as familiar with Zakir Hussain (tabla), but really enjoyed what he was doing.

Cheers

I collected a few lp’s over the decades of Jean Luc Ponty. Jazz of the purer form rather than the softer pretty music that most are somewhat aware of. Enigmatic Ocean was a first taste of his recordings that moved in that directionIMG_5538.jpegIMG_5300.jpegIMG_5301.jpegIMG_5537.jpeg

I wonder how many artists have recorded this great song? One of my favorites:

Many, many. It's a standard with "elegant" changes.
In gleaning some background on the piece, Marian Petrescu's "Prelude, Op. 28, No. 4 (Chopin)" intro on the video that may have been an influence for Insensatez, and his solos (especially the 2nd & 3rd) are sooo delicate and well, sensitive. Possibly a tribute to Jobim whom Wikipedia quotes in its "The Composer of Desafinado Plays" album article as saying he wasn't allowed to perform on on his primary instrument (piano) for American TV after album's release because producers said "it didn't fit the "Latin Lover" image they wanted him to portray. How Insensitive :cautious: .
