What Are You Eating?

I want to start making a good red lentil dahl but toasting and grinding whole spices seems like a lot for a workaday meal. Can anyone recommend a good premade dahl spice mix, maybe along these lines?

PREETI MISTRY’S SAVORY DAL MASALA

  • 3 tablespoons coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 1 black cardamom pod
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • One 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon brown mustard seeds
  • 1⁄2 cup dried chile de arbol, wiped clean and stems removed
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
I would buy all of the whole spices and keep them in the pantry...they last a long time, unlike pre-ground spices (which taste stale a month after opening the jar) and a quick toast in a dry skillet and a grind in the coffee grinder (or mortar & pestle which I do) make a world of difference in taste...I already have all of these spices (except fenugreek) in my pantry already...it really doesn't take much time at all...

Read in the WSJ that 107% tariffs are coming for Italian pasta.
This I find upsetting, and so am stocking up right away...
:(

Had some pickled beets with dinner last night. Boiled up some eggs today for an egg salad sandwich and tossed the extras in the beet juice. Now the wait begins. 😉

Went to Spark Pizza with a friend yesterday. We started with an appetizer, “The Burrata.” I copied the following description from their website, “Burrata Di Andria, Pistachio Crémeux, Crispy Garlic, Pine Nuts, Spicy Honey, Espelette, Micro Basil, House Focaccia Bread.”

We then ordered two pizzas, 1 NY style pizza, King Kong Pepp and 1 of their classic pizzas, Homage to Frankie’s. We added jalapeños to the Homage to Frankie’s.

Good stuff!
