Never heard of that. Is it processed like bacon or ham? It's definitely heavy on the fat. Is its purpose to add flavor. I'm having a hard time seeing much nutritional value there. You post a lot of interesting dishes, but this one really has me scratching my head.chashu pork
It’s rolled pork belly…where bacon comes from…Never heard of that. Is it processed like bacon or ham? It's definitely heavy on the fat. Is its purpose to add flavor. Yeah, that's what it looks like. But to what purpose? Adding flavor? It’s rolled pork belly…where bacon comes from…
Apparently I need to make you a bowl of ramen…it is all about the flavor (but it is quite nutritional as well)Yeah, that's what it looks like. But to what purpose? Adding flavor?
That was me a few weeks ago when a new halal market opened near my house. Lots of north/East African and Eastern Mediterranean wares and foodstuffsThere's not much about shopping that I enjoy...spending money, other people, lines...the mere idea of it I find repulsive.
Shopping at an ethnic food market is an exception. New stuff, oddball fruits and veggies, different cuts of meat, different spice mixes, and of course the quizzical looks from the other customers at the old man wandering around asking questions about stuff, slowly filling the basket with ingredients for a meal. Almost always the kids/grandkids of the proprietor running around being kids, as many of these are family run operations.
It's just a small joy in an otherwise bland world of big agrogarbage food shopping experiences.
Would recommend....
Hey now, I've never even been to the mid-west, unless you count a couple of plane changes at Chicago and Detroit. One thing that keeps my diet pretty mainstream western American is language. When I can't pronounce, let alone have a clue what some ingredient is on the menu, I'm not inclined to order it. The exception is Italian. When I can't read the menu I just have them bring me something; it's always good. Plus, I've learned that Indian and Asian food tends to be really hot. I like Thai food, but when I order, I emphasize repeatedly - only ONE star spicy. I've mentioned previously that at 2 or 3 stars hot, my head sweats profusely, my eyes water, and my nose runs a bucket of snot. Having a fresh box of Kleenex on the dining table seriously detracts from a quality dining experience. How to eat beyond the Midwest, a global perspective
Before I started buying box wine, I filled a 32 gallon trash can with empty wine bottles.
When enjoying a fine beef steak do you prefer it well done with a generous topping of ketchup? Apparently some do.I don't find the variety that can be had with beef, pork, poultry, and fish to be monotonous, although I confess to being too beef centric.
At my house, if you want your steak well done or with ketchup, you get a hamburger. No exceptions! When enjoying a fine beef steak do you prefer it well done with a generous topping of ketchup? Apparently some do.
Ok...when I get back to WA, I'll grill you a proper steak...with a proper baked potato, a nice salad and a nice bottle of red wine...Hey now, I've never even been to the mid-west, unless you count a couple of plane changes at Chicago and Detroit. I like lamb chops OK, so long as they are sizzling hot from fire or stove. I have to eat them immediately, if not sooner. Otherwise they get that tallow flavor and texture of mutton, which is gross. Also, Mrs. Salmo doesn't care for lamb, so we don't have it. Kale anything is like eating weeds, which I'm not into. The rice with turmeric shown in Brute's photo looks pretty good. About the box wine Mossback, there's a method to my madness. Two actually. The recycling service picks up glass only once a month and thinks we're supposed to put all our glass in this really small bin. Before I started buying box wine, I filled a 32 gallon trash can with empty wine bottles. It's sort of embarrassing. Not to mention, it gets expensive.
