What Are You Eating?

I can always tell if my wife likes something I prepared --- she gets seconds.

Pesto sauce with basil from the garden and walnuts from our tree. I squeeze some fresh lemon into the blender as I think it helps keep the chopped basil nice and green. (Pesto sauce served over pasta with grilled fish, coleslaw and sauteed green beans.)
Pat, what is your secret for keeping the squirrels etc from getting all of your nuts? I have 2 hazelnut trees and they get every last one of them. Worst part is they start eating them way before they are ripe and waste about 2/3 or more of the crop during their careless early harvest.

we have English walnuts in Forks. The crows and jays take them. They fly off with them, then drop from height onto the pavement.
For a longtime I thought it was the elk taking them.

Dave - I'm not sure how these fox squirrels came to the Basin, they're not native. I used to think they were kinda cute, watching them run on the big telephone line between power poles. One morning my wife was down in the garden and I was standing under the walnut tree talking with her when I felt something falling on my hair. I looked up and there was a squirrel cleaning the husk of a not close to ripe walnut. I bought pellet gun and fox squirrels are now camp meat.

Shameless plug for this place in Port Townsend...

Excellent stuff here, will recommend

Winner…
Grabbed the time capsule 89 Miata and cruised chuckanut drive down to laconner and back stopping here and there for some local eats and brews.
Enjoy both Miata and Taylors. My old boss had a Miata when it was first on the market. She was really hefty (and mean) so I asked one of my coworkers how she got into the Miata. He answered back, "with a shoehorn". I lost it....

Dad bought the Miata from neighbors. First year and garaged since new. 29k original miles. A fun chuckanut ride.

Bone in pork shoulder was on sale for $0.99/lb so I picked one up when I was at the store on Friday. Initially I planned on throwing it in the freezer for a smoker date in the future, but I walked by some fresh, authentic hatch chilies that were screaming chile verde, so that's where it went. Luckily we had cool weather today and the kitchen stayed comfortable despite the 2 loaves of sourdough followed by a 4 hour braise.
Tortillas, roasted chiltepin hot sauce, crema, and a Mexican lager not pictured.
