WDFW Digital license

Digital for me. I also have the Oregon app with my licensing for that state and it works great. Hoping for similar effectiveness from the WDFW app might be wishful thinking, but I decided to give it a go.

yep, just did everything via the app.

I do a lot of multi-day floats so I'm all paper. Battery power is a hot commodity so no way am I keeping some stupid app up for a week straight. I haven't killed a fish in 5+ years so I really don't need a catch card....
that's what I'd be doing too if I did multi-day floats!

I'm get that, but my phone is my best camera, river map and note taker.
And if I keep it charged, I can use it to text people via my Zoleo. Which includes possible text to 911.
I pack an offline charger that keeps it charged for 4 or 5 days no problem.
I consider it my most important tool besides the raft and rod.

This is WAY overdue

Thanks to all of you who went digital early and found the bugs. Next year will go more smoothly.

I haven't bought my new license yet, but I'll get the paper hard copy one again this time. I always have my wallet with me, which is where my fishing license resides. Unlike the average American, I'm not glued to my cell phone, so I might not have it with me when I'm fishing.
Ditto when it comes to paper vs cell phone. It may be a generation thing ... 😬

Digital for me.

If you are worried about your battery, compact charge packs are super cheap these days. Or if you are worried about losing your phone or dropping it in the water (most are pretty waterproof these days), screen capture your license and print it for easy access as proof of license.

I also carry a jump box in my rigs that will charge a phone battery.

You can also set the phone on Airplane Mode and turn off Bluetooth and other optional functions to extend battery life. You can still use the camera as well as have the app open for license verification and the battery will last for days.

Get one of those little power paks that also doubles as a hand heater (can be very handy on cold nights when camping) or a small solar charger if needed.

Us early adopters are the 'bleeding edge'. We'll see how dysfunctional this WDFW app is and report back. :D

When you can shout like Travers a phone is redundant.
I HEAR HE USES TWO OLD FOLGERS COFFEE CANS AND SOME OLD FISHING LINE BETWEEN THEM! ITS FREE AND YOU CAN TEXT, WELL USE MORSE CODE ALL YA WANT!

I opted for the paper version this year, in order to wait and see how the digital version works out for folks. I didn’t like the fact that you had to choose one OR the other.
I heard there was legislation in place to remedy this. I'm the main amendment you can pay double and have both but there is an added surcharge as well making it triple. However you will be eligible to have your vote not count for 30 dollar car tabs in the next general election. If you vote yes through you will then be required to pay a tax on your climate commitment carbon exchange tax to be double what you would have paid for the tabs under the old rules. Then there is the war tax which is federal and undetermined at this time. Hope this helps.

Will the digital version fade and eventually disappear if your phone or computer gets too warm?
No, but it will be guaranteed problematic. Much like the vehicles at the region office that give up the ghost as they have never had the oil changed or maintainace of any kind. Yes, an entire building filled with non or barely running equipment while requisitions for new get approved.
