Water temp problems with Garmin

I have a Garmin setup on my boat. Took it out for the first time this year and GPS was great, sonar was working great, was marking fish, but it was not providing water temp. Can the temp sensor on these things fail and everything else work just fine? It is a four-year old EchoMap UHD 73sv with a GT56 transducer.

Can the temp sensor on these things fail and everything else work just fine? It is a four-year old EchoMap UHD 73sv with a GT56 transducer.

Nevermind, had a chance to really give it a good look today and the cable housing is nicked about 2 inches up from the transducer. Cut through the housing and one of the wires inside. Wonder if I snared some fishing line or something, because it is a clean cut.
