Hey y’all! I will be in Walla Walla the later half of the weekend through the weekend and would love to hit some local fishing holes while I’m here. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on general locations that might be good places to start. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

During the late 60's and 70's when I lived in Wa2 we would fish the Tucannon above Marengo bridge or cross the border into Oregon and fish the Walla Walla above Milton Freewater. There used to be a good brown trout fishery on the Toutle up near Dayton but I doubt it exists any more. There's a small reservoir just outside town but you would need a floating device for it. Any other places like the Umatilla might take more time than you have. The last few years when I've visited friends there I left my fly rods at home and just enjoyed wine tasting for which opportunities are in good supply.

Willie did you try any fly fishing near WW? Did Tom take you?

I love the small stream fisheries.

My son was in WW college so I was able to fish it every fall and early summer when I transferred his dorm or apt full of stuff in my full sized plumber van.

Worth 5 hour drive one way from Puyallup to catch average 9 inch rainbows on dry flies. Never did nymph or streamer cause had enough entertainment on dry fly in crystal clear water. 9 inches put big bend in 2 wt. So fun!

He's missing out, as I can attest! I caught one of my rare doubles fishing with you!
I ran into 5 7-8th graders with spin poles, spinners and spoons, fishing the section we fished, the other day. I think that's the next gen's run for a couple years. "Yeah, dads got a fly rod, we'll try it". The kid I let try my fly pole a couple years ago is still fishing flies, he's in high school now.

I too am curious if Big Willie did any fishing in the Wa2 area. I was there this last weekend visiting an old buddy. Left my fly rods home but did take a drive up the S. fork of the Wa2 river above Milton Firewater (haha) to Harris County Park. There was enough water to fish but minimal access till you got to the park. There the road was gated and there were 3 rigs parked that had hiked above the gate. Hope they had water cuz it was hot! No other anglers were spotted.

Hello all,
I am a new member. Came across this site as I was looking for information on the walla walla river in oregon to fish in the next few days.
Flyfished it as a kid many moons ago and always wanted to get back there.
I was wondering if worth going now or wait until next June?
All I remember is dry attractor flies and a lot of fun.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
BlindSquirrel

Check the regs as we're nearing the end of the season. Waters been really low this year. Might be nice for a long walk before the weather turns ugly for a bit.

Hello,
thank you for the heads up on the regulation and stream flow.
I was hoping to go this weekend but sounds like it is to low.
So sadly will not be going, and to my wife's joy will be out in the yard working.
Hopefully next June.
