Vintage g. Loomis graphite tip

Hi everyone,

I have an 8.5 ft 5 weight g. Loomis imx, the signature series one from the 80s. Unfortunately, I broke the tip of the rod and have not been able to find anybody who can help. G. Loomis doesn't sell blanks anymore, the tip could sort of be fixed but I would like a new one. I'm such a big fan of these rods that I went ahead and purchased 2 more. A 7.5 ft 4 weight im6 and an 8 ft 3 weight imx. They're both great however the 8.5 ft rod holds sentimental value and I'd like to be able to use it again someday. Does anyone have any recommendations?

How sentimental is the rod? You should be able to register the rod w/ Loomis, if it's not already, and send it in for warranty replacement. If they determine that the failure is covered under warranty, they'll send you a new rod, the current closest version. If they determine it's your fault, they'll send you a brand new rod of the current version for $150. I recently broke an old Loomis 9' 5wt Metolius that I'd had for 30 yrs. It had never been registered w/ them. I did exactly as described above and they're sending me a brand new 9' 5wt IMX Pro V2. I actually got the email this morning telling me it shipped out.

I am a long time IM6 fan. I have also had a few IMX rods. I broke an IM6 rod a few years ago. I tried the Loomis warranty program. They replaced it with a IMX-Pro. IMHO a piece of junk when compared to IM6/IMX rods. Not even near the same... Sold the IMX-Pro immediately.

Depending on where and how the tip broke, you could try to add a new tip-top and see how it casts and feels. Easy to do... May be just a temporary solution but better than nothing.

I looked on the big auction site and it took about a year to buy a used 9' 5# IM6 replacement. Best thing I have done in a long time.
