SFR Video Gamers Lounge!

Sorta fishing-related
Been around long enough that my first video game was Pong, and it was groundbreaking at the time. Was into online racing simulators when they first came out, NASCAR and Grand Prix Legends, competing with but never beating the top drivers in the world.

Now prefer a calmer challenge, WGT Golf. It's the only way I'll ever get to play Pebble Beach!

@DanielOcean It looks like we have similar systems. That looks like a Corsair Vengeance on the floor and some pretty good support pieces. I have a Corsair CPU, keyboard and headphones. I invest in good stuff that actually gets used a lot. It pays off in the end. I'm just about 81 now and stay away from the PVP(live combat with other people) stuff, the kids shoot me in nothing flat. I do pretty well in PVE (vs the computer). I used to bird hunt a lot and it kind of takes the place of that.

Thanks Jere, i built this computer from the ground up last year. I needed initially to replace the motherboard but after a while I elected to build a new system future proofed for a while

Oh Daniel, the future is an expensive place...

I built a couple of units some years ago but now I am happy with the good prebuilts. I did go with a wide OLED curved monitor though, it is very immersive. Very.

Zork and Wishbringer around 1986.
Great memories and it was a blast to spend time in the world of interactive games. That was the extent of my video gaming life.

I think the SteamDeck has been one of my biggest surprises as far as my gaming platforms go. Never thought I'd use it as much as I do when I have a PS5 as well. But it's just too convenient and has an endless catalog of games.

You are not kidding man. Very expensive. I enjoy the curved monitor for only gaming. I have not enjoyed it doing simple task work. Solution is suppose is 5 monitors of different sizes LOL LOL.

I'm pretty sure that Pong on an Atari was my first computer game.

Let's see, I have played Tetris. It came with the computer. Long before that I played Pong on a machine in a tavern. And lost, every time. Then a guy at work shared a game with me that required very advanced 386 computers. It was a soldier trying to escape a Nazi prison, goofy, but a fun way to accelerate hand-eye coordination. Can't think of any I've tried in the last 25 years.

I should go first. Just a very basic pc setup. I greatly enjoy flight simulator, and call of duty primarily. I even have a Twitch. I started doing it for 2 reasons which was my career, and saw an opportunity to hang out with my children. It all started cause Tori said she could beat me in N64 Golden Eye! I felt that crossing the line. 6 Years later we all still have our Wednesday night "Stooge" group with my daughters and other friends.
When my children irritate me, it is really satisfying to destroy them on Call of Duty! LOL

I used to play a lot of flight sim back in the college days, had a stick and hotas setup too. DCS Flanker, Su-25, IL-2, Ka-50 etc...

That is awesome. I have always had a fond love of flight, and space/flight. If I would have known my self worth at an earlier age, I would have gone after it. Today I am strongly considering getting my pilot's license at some point with the intention of owning a small Cessna. So far I have figured out how to talk to ground, and the tower, and the general "language" that is used in communication. Ill start navigation systems at some point. I told my wife jokingly that in the event of a zombie apocalypse and we had to get in a plane to escape, I think I could do it! I even know the start up procedure of my Cessna, and my F-14.

I played a lot of Descent back in the day, and had a MadCatz flight stick and large trackball combo for circle strafing.

You might like Peter Heller's book The Dog Stars, about post apocalypse small plane flying and fly fishing.

All that stuff is still fun today! Games don't age it seems. They do evolve however. There is a massive following of vintage video game's, and collecting. One of my gaming buddies does that and collects all that junk. Has his entire house displayed with different vintage consoles in every room.................................................................................................he's single.

Also, when my children irritate me, it is really satisfying to blow their heads off with a .50 cal sniper rifle.

I went down the Mini-ITX rabbit hole a few years ago and came out the other end with this build. I really prefer my PC to sit on top of my desk because: access to I/O is easier than bending below a desk, cleaning below the desk doesn't require working around or moving the PC, and the PC is collects significantly less dust and dog hair by being off the floor.

The case I chose has nifty riser cable that allows one to mount the GPU vertically just behind the mother board. Which could result in some temp issues but the case is fully perforated on all sides so airflow is just about maximized and the AIO fans keep the air moving. "Cable management" in a case like this is really just about squeezing all of it in there and less about making it look good so you'll just have to trust me that the pic showing the motherboard side is as good as I could reasonably get.

I tend to play only a few games most of the time (Rocket League, Hell Let Loose) but like to play others from time to time (DayZ, The Witcher, Cyberpunk, Helldivers)

And because I can't help but share - a photo of the furball Leny (Lenora). My Rottweiler-poodle mix (an accident of nature we "rescued", not an intentionally-bred designer dog).

I can almost guarantee that you'd be able to start and take off in a small Cessna. Being able to land and walk away? Not so much!
