Very sad day…..

Again, thank you all for your inspirational kind words. I know I’m not the first and only person to gat divorced but definitely the first time for me. As statistics show, too many divorces….. At my age and stage of life, I was sure we’d grow older and pass on together. Dang…good thing I still have flyfishing!!

Sorry to read about your world getting turned upside down. Never experienced divorce myself but was a shoulder for a close friend who got blindsided 5 years ago. I, too, send hope and good vibes to help you thru this.

I have, however, experienced a father will alcohol problems. My dad turned 89 last week and has been on the roller coaster since my mom died 15 years ago. Rely on your close friends, your children, your AA sponsor, or whoever when you need a shoulder. In my dad's case, the alcohol does not mix well with his changing body chemistry and assorted prescriptions....it doesn't take much to get him fall down or blackout drunk...and the depression just gets worse & worse...But enough of this wormhole....

If you would like a winter project to get thru the coming winter gloom, I have a couple old bamboo rods you are welcome to have. Your HotRodz postings inspired me to get them but so far they've just been gathering dust so it would be cool to see what you would do with them. Send me your address if you want 'em and I'll get them in the mail this week.

Having gone through a divorce after 13 years of marriage was hard enough. I can't imagine having to build a new life after 44 years. All good things your way, sir. I would highly suggest seeking out a good therapist. It helps immensly to talk about your pain and uncertainty.

Today wasn’t a sad day at all…..almost perfect. My good friend Tom and I went razor clamming/surf perchin. No traffic on the way there, a couple of showers but kept getting brighter as we neared the ocean. We arrived around 12:00, a couple of cars and calm weather! The cars next to us had their rods leaning on them so I walked over to see if they fished yet. They got there around 7:00 am and had a nice bucket full. They were tailgating eating some awesome lunch…..they invited us to join! Heck yes! Three Philippino couples and a killer spread of hot food! We started fishing around 1:00 and the razors were already showing. First cast a nice big red tail! We each caught two and missed some. But now the almost part…a set of huge waves blasted us and knocked me over backwards. As I was trying to stand up, another wave hit me and I was tumbling under water. I got soaked! I hung on tight to my rod but sand disabled my reel so I was done fishing. We switched to digging clams and had our limits in about 45 minutes! It was an hour and a half before low tide so as we were walking back to the car people just arriving couldn’t believe we were done! Then it started raining…..even though I was wet the car heater sure felt great and back on the road still with daylight! Day by day….fun day today and some good eats for tomorrow!!

Wow, you're a lot tougher than I am!

Not sure if I’m tougher or dumber Old406Kid…..7 years ago same thing happened to me. A set of huge rogue waves snuck up on me, I didn’t have time to retreat so I had to stand my ground and lean into the waves, over my waders then the next one hit me and I was underwater getting pushed up the beach. I put my right leg down and tore my hamstring in two places. OUCH! Deja Vu…. I feel ok today, just sore, tired and lucky! I’ve been razor digging/surf perch fishing since the 60’s. It’ll take more than Mother Nature twice kicking my ass to stop…..

That's some serious 'meats' on the back.

I take responsibility for ending 44+ years with my wife/soul mate Kerri as today we are getting divorced. Life happens, you never know what’s in store for us. One day at a time…. but we’re ok.
Sorry to hear your sad news Steve. We just celebrated our 60 th anniversary.
I would think it would be harder to just have a few drinks than none at all, over time. I don't like any kind of liquor and years ago cut back to only have one beer on a Friday night with dinner.
