Umpqua quickie

I ducked out of work early in Grants Pass and headed up to Roseburg to watch my daughter play volleyball. I had a little time after the game but before dark so I decided to head down to the South Umpqua to see what this smallmouth bass stuff is all about. I found a shallow riffle to cast across, and spent about half an hour fishing a bugger on a jig hook on a pretty fast swing. I ended up with 5 smallmouth, and one was pretty decent sized.

I had a great time! I’m gonna need to take the daughter on a float next summer

Any time spent on an “Umpqua” named river and a bend in the rod…is heaven to me. 😁
I reckon I oughta explore the North Umpqua soon, but I've been too bust getting reacquainted with the Rogue and Diamond Lake

Make it up to the fly tying expo OCT 5th at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
“Whistler’s Twilight” will be rollin’ off my vise.
Visit the event most of the day/fish the N Umpqua the rest. 😉

Thanks for the invite, I'm going to try to make it!

That is really well tied. 👍

I volunteer for one of the orgs sponsoring the event. I'll be working the casting station. It's mostly aimed at new noobies that want to try casting, but come by and say hey and fling a piece of yarn. I might also tie for a few hours if we have empty tables. I'll probably do some seasonal stuff, estuary Chinook and October caddis patterns. Look forward to seeing FFV'ers there
