Type III head for a 4wt switch rod?

After a blether with Stonedfish I'm considering going after salty summer salmon thru the summer doldrums. My 4 wt switch has a 320 grain floater (I think) but I was thinking a type 3 head would be better vs sticking a poly leader on to get my fly down and blast casts further. With nylon running line the floater set up goes 90’ no bother at all. Does anyone make such heads?

Basic web searches yielded nada for me so looking to the collective brains on here to see what’s available…are there ready made lines or should I go for a low cost wf T3 at a 5 or 6 wt and chop off the first 340 odd grains and trim from there?

Thank in advance,

Dave

You can ask SF what works for his area. But I'm thinking you can use 30ft of 300grain shooting head to a mono runner or a rio outbound short head to a mono runner or an obs integrated line. OBS come in float to sink6. I find most switch rods kinda soft so to keep the feel faster and crisp I would go as light as I can on the shooting head maybe 250gr assuming compatible with fly weight and wind. If it's windy go heavier.

I’d be glad to help Dave out but I don’t own any two handed rods. I sold them all after determining I was severely two handed challenged. 😉😂

I've had great luck using a Rio Outbound on switch rods. for my Batson / Forecast 10'6" 6wt (SH weight scale) I found it worked nice with an 8 weight Rio OB (the original 37' version). That was in the river, not the salt, but I wouldn't hesitate to try an 8 weight OBS on it in the salt. And then you can pick whatever sink rate you want.

It’s a switch so I’m at 1 1/2 handed, so I’m an inbetweener. I like single handeds over Spey but when I get caring down this rod throws a daft long line with not a lot of effort.
