Two states, one week, four places.

Drove to Seattle for a meeting and to hang with my dad. Took a detour to the Kitsap and fished with a friend. Fishing was a bit slow for us, we caught a few little ones.

At the end of my visit, my work buddies and I had a breakfast meeting at Beth's Cafe, and then it was time to head south on I-5. For those of you who don't know, you never leave Beth's with any space left in your stomach. My next planned stop was to get my wife at PDX- she had been visiting grandkids. There was a bit of time before her flight arrived, and then she called and said it was late. So, she asked, "Why don't you go fishing?" Honestly hadn't thought of it, but what a great idea!

I meandered down the highway, checking the cities I passed for new water to fish. The first spot I found was Lake Sacajawea in Longview. This is kinda the opposite of fishing on a Kitsap beach, but it was a nice day and I had a good time. I was a bit of an outlier with my flyrod, but to my surprise, my bugger ran into this brooder. It basically looked like a whole ham with stubby fins. The locals were happy for me. I asked if anyone wanted it but nobody did, so it went back in the water.

I left Longview, got some good grub at a food cart in Kalama (just what I needed after Beth's), and the looked for another spot to try. Google led me to the Angler West fishing store in Woodland. The nice fella there said, "How about Horseshoe Lake? They put fish in there recently." OK... where is it? He pointed with his thumb and said, "Between this building and the freeway!" So I found a parking place and started walking the bank. I ended up catching and releasing quite few of these.

My little clouser got about a hundred strikes. I called the Angler West shop and thanked the guy for the tip.

Later that week we drove to the Oregon Coast for a low tide and I went after surfperch. The scenery was great, but no fish for me.
