Two Half Days on the Big Horn.

The weather here is finally starting to warm up after several weeks of sub-freezing temps and multiple days of snow. When I woke up Sunday morning and saw the outside temperature at 40 degrees, the first thing that came to mind was “time to hit the river”. All the local water still had over a foot of snow on the banks or frozen sections, so I headed to Thermopolis where the Big Horn flows through the town that has hot springs and thermal activity. No snow on the ground there! Rolled into town around noon and hit one of the local fly shops, picked up some recommended bugs and a little intel on some places to try. The water was pretty low and slow moving, which in some areas made wading a little easier. I managed to get into several nice fish, losing a few and getting six to the net. Having that kind of success, I decided to grab a room, spend the night and try it again in the morning before heading back. Had dinner and a beer at the One Eyed Buffalo, one of my favorite places to eat in town. In the morning I fished a couple of different spots for about three hours before heading for home. Picked up a few smaller fish and one really nice pig. Time well spent.

One of the runs.
