What I find really strange is how folks, who claim to be all about free markets and minimal government, get butt hurt when private businesses act in their self interest and ban their idols.

I'm more concerned about this kind of cognitive dissonance than anything else. It seems to be the primary phenomenon behind the decay of this country.

My favorite one is "love thy neighbor, unless it means actually doing anything for them" (eg. paying for welfare, taking a minimal risk on a vaccine, wearing a mask, letting them get married, etc).

I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine

Came here to make the Naked News joke, you beat me to it.

Came here to point out that in most of the country there is no law requiring one to get vaccinated against a possible deadly case of covid19. In most areas it is however against the law to attempt to commit suicide. So therefore Elon can think whatever the fuck he wants, same as me.

At present I am adding up my internet bill, computer cost, electrical costs and a few other related things to try and figure out just exactly what my "free" speech above just cost me...and then I'm going outside and tan my balls while reading memorable tweets from MTG and look for recipes for Republican Gazpacho.

Fox definitely has a wider spread. Rupert wants that outrage money. Real news is boring as shit. I tried to be a good boy and only expose myself to AP and so on, but I only lasted a day. Now, I just don't consume any news at all. If I need to know something, someone always tells me one way or another.

there's a factor this does not seem to capture well, and i only notice because i see npr near the top and center. the factor that's missing might be called "manipulation by omission", or something.

i listened to npr pretty much exclusively for news for years leading up to the 2016 election, for the reasons implied by this chart and also because some of the non-news content appealed to me. but when that election cycle started gearing up, i realized i was repulsed by hilary clinton, and interested in understanding bernie sanders in a fuller way before deciding how to deal with my vote. then a funny thing happened. bernie, who had been getting plenty of coverage for non campaign matters, disappeared from npr. hilary was omnipresent. almost as omnipresent as...trump. it was a idiotic as a hollywood hero movie. the strategy of highlighting only one democrat candidate, while putting the brightest spotlight of all on a ridiculously caricatured straw man as her opponent, while excluding all coverage of any other serious candidate on either side....it all just crystalized then for me, and i haven't listened to npr since. the richest irony is that all of the left leaning media seemed to do this, believing they could cash in on the spectacle of trump for traffic without risking any vulnerability in the election. but as some obscure writer said in the first century, "you cannot worship god and mammon". cash won, and as a consequence, so did trump. thanks a lot, liberal media, for giving us trump.

If Musk buys Twitter I may dedicate my life to tweeting at least one vile or derogatory post about him, Grimes, his nameless children, Tesla, etc. every day. Would be an interesting test of the douche nozzle’s commitment to free speech absolutism.

Anyone claiming that progressives are the only ones who stifle expression (which I agree is a problem) isn’t paying attention.

There was some high school or college kid that figured out how to track Musk’s private jet. I think think he was posting this on Twitter and little Elon got a bit chuffed. Probably why he wants to buy Twitter so he can ban the kid. So much for free speech absolutism.

That's funny! Good on that kid!

Elon Musk, the 50-year-old billionaire who has made a name for himself by wheeling and dealing in technology offered a Florida teenager $5,000 to shut down a Twitter account in 2020. Why? Because the account uses public ADS-B data to track the comings and goings of Musk's private jet for the now viral account, Elon Musk's Jet, and Musk didn't like it.

The owner of the account, Jack Sweeney, turned down Musk's offer, and continues to track Musk's air-traffic to this day

Harassment. So hot right and progressive right now.

I don’t watch TV much anymore, but when I do, it’s at my brother’s place…about once a month.

I have the same WTF and head shake each time as I can’t believe a grown person would say that…let alone believe it.
😉

However, if you adjusted that infographic for actual viewership, I believe the results would be damning.

since you took it there, enlighten me (and everyone else). What are these damning results? I'm curious as to which direction you're headed with this....

edit: chances are we're pretty damn close on the "belief system" spectrum, I just try to look at things objectively....I said try...

The chart was made by a self proclaimed liberal. But backed up by 'reasonable methodology' 🙄
All ratings were from humans with different political views(left, right, center) let it be in the record that Mitt Romney would consider himself a principled conservative.. lol. So ya it's a biased chart considering how many legacy media sources are at the top.
