With the Main Event not many days away, I spent most of the morning playing with horsehair and “snooding” flies. The trick is to tie a knot on the end of 2-3 strands of hair, then carefully twist the horsehairs together. (I’m not a very good twister and destroyed the first several) Then it’s to the hair dye jar for one to three hours.. longer, darker.
My theory on white horsehair leaders is the fish can easily see them, unless looking up..then they blend with the sky. But…if I dye them green or brown, and fish deep under an indicator, (in this case a goose quill) .. there’s an outside chance I can fool them for bragging rights!

Horsehair and 200 AD Macedonian flies..
Fun little trip to Goose Lake today, and I'm thinking the last one for the year. The water was high, (it's been raining) a little off color, and the fishing was kinda slow. That was probably because for the first couple hours, I used my 130 year old Greenheart fly rod, a silk line. horsehair...
