Turkey Day on the Trinity

Rented a place on the Trinity river for Thanksgiving this year. Such a nice place, right on the river with a launch you can start or finish your drift from in the yard. Very low and clear while we were there and the fishing was slow but we had a few great drifts. The low water meant donating a bit of gel coat to the rocks. Great time.

I was supposed to be there tomorrow for a week, spend 2 days on upper and 3 below the south fork. Super disappointed as I’ve never fished the bottom end. Got Covid Monday and that ended that. Should be smoking hot after this storm.
Poured down here in Sac. today. If they got the same rain up there the fish should be pushing up the river. Definitely need this rain down here.
I think I would have fished through the covid. Wouldn't even social distance from the fish.
I have only fished the upper river a few times. Would like to check out the lower river some time.

The Trinity at Hoopa went from 1600 CFS to 3200 in 24 hrs, should bring in the bigger winter fish. I was really looking forward to learning the lower river, less access below Willow creek due to reservation lands. The guide we had focuses on the lower river and is swing only. I know the upper part, down to the North Fork pretty well, section from Lewiston to JC fishes well in these conditions due to being a tail water.
