Well, technically, most warranties need to be mailed in within a month to be legit. So unfortunately it may be invalid. Side note/thread drift: It's really annoying when people think that a blank warranty card provided with a a sale on a 20-30 year old rod or reel means anything? I love when people try to explain that it will be valid, say, on an Abel reel that was made by Steve Abel, when Steve Abel doen't even own the company any more.

Not to be too direct, but you're WAY overthinking it. Just get a true to weight line and go fish it. If you don't like the SA taper, get the Cortland Peach, if you don't like the peach taper, get a DT. Just get a line and enjoy it.

Or give it to me and I'll fish it for you.

I found dealing with them that they're easier to get a hold of by phone. Email wasn't getting much traction - but a phone call got good results. YMMV, but I'll throw that out there in case it helps.

Hi there, Abel does still provide a warranty for original, Steve Abel built reels. You just need to give them a call and they will register it for you. I have done that with several of my original Abel reels. Unless something has changed recently.

FYI I had an LTX break that Winston repaired. I had never sent the card in from when I bought it. They didn't have the LTX available so hooked it up with a brand new rod. Winston is pretty rad in my book. Single data point, but figured it's pertinent.

PS, I have two blank abel warranty cards I found from back when I bought the reels. You're saying don't take the time to send them in? 😬
PPS, I should probably do better about sending in warranty cards timely...as I see from typing this that I'm not very good at that.
 
One of the great things about Cortland is that they are still making lines that matched rod requirements made decades ago.

Got an old rod? Get a Cortland line e.g. 444, Peach, Sylk, that matches how you will be fishing it...

Really good to know.

My opinion still stands, that buying a 30 year old reel from a re seller with a blank card SHOULD NOT be valid and/or raise the value of the reel.
