had probably 4-5 lazy follows (from the fish I WAS looking for) and one that I couldn't quite convert boatside....man, I'm rusty.

They're legitimately one of the hardest hitting fish. They just don't do much after.
Too bad they don't fight like small mouth...

Jesus. Of course you only had some lazy follows with those beasts swimming around as snacks. Looks like even you need to start tying some bigger flies :).

Srsly. That tank of a Pikeminnow is a nice snack for the motherload...been a couple of years since we've seen it.

Do you ever sign up for the bounty fishery? Could make a little gas money back..

not CR.

But yeah, I've honestly thought about it but then, I rarely get them on the CR.

you know I was pretty excited to have caught something that big so I didn't care about the fish at all... whoops
I'm told pikeminnow make great bait for mudbugs should that ever interest you; some spicy etouffee sounds really good.

I do wonder how they'd smoke....I'm not gonna try it myself, but I'm just waiting for someone else to....I'll probably be waiting a while.

That's a healthy one! That size really gets your heart pounding when they crush a skated steelhead fly RIGHT where you were hoping or expecting a steelie. Fun for about 5, maybe 10 seconds.
I caught one on the big C on spinning gear on a walleye jig from shore back in the late 80s that was all of 5 lbs. It actually took line a few times and had me thinking I had a nice bass or even a skinny Skamania steelie. It's the ONLY one I've ever had that fought more that about 15 seconds.
