Please, it's an anchor line. The material it's made from is rope. If you don't want to call it a line, you can call it a rode.

I also cringed at the terminology. I was taught that (on a vessel) a "rope" was either coiled or attached to a bell.

I apologize for drifting the discussion. But, I will say this..... many fisherman may be unaware of how much of a negative impact that "ground tackle" can have on the targeted fish. IMHO... minimizing this impact is a worthy endeavor.

I use 440 paracord in camo, with 8# downrigger ball and 4# downrigger ball. The cord is wound on a scuba diver reel. Reel can handle 75' for that naked, vertical, dangle thing currently being discussed in another thread. Scotty pully.
