The original knife thread.

My son and I both have this Morakniv Garberg and it is a well-made, super sturdy full tang knife. Currently on a heck of a sale on Amazon with the poly/plastic sheath (the leather sheath is nicer, I think, but not on the same sale):

I've mentioned these guys before. Clowns, but eventually they get into why they love this knife so much. I think it's the best value in a fixed blade today.

Here is an interesting knife (at least to me). It's a Western blade that has been rehandled in what looks like oak. Shame that they put a plastic pommel on it, though.

Based on the wide fuller grooves, I think this was originally a Western "baby shark" knife. The rehandled knife's new shape reminds me of a puukko knife. I think I'll keep it!

It came with a Case sheath that fits it well, but I might craft a custom wet molded leather sheath for it some day.

Hey, this is a really cool knife. I don't know the fixed blade Western's that well, but there is a good chance that the 'Bakelite' pommel is original. Baby Shark's (doot doot, do do doo) are very collectible. The oak slabs are replaced, but that was pretty common on a lot of Western's. I do know that there are guys who sell replacement leather "H" style discs to fit the double tang style Westerns'. Or, you could do it yourself if that interests you. Finding an original sheath is more difficult, but on a lot of Western's, they used an 'Oak Leaf' relief, so this can be handy as a search tag when looking for something on a large auction site. Thanks for sharing. I'll post more of my Western's in time.

All of these pictures and knives are too good. I probably shouldn’t even post in here. But I am going to help the cause by providing a useful counterpoint. 😉
Somebody wanted to see a Boy Scout knife. I was never a Boy Scout, but I’ve always had this knife since I can remember. It was a hand me down inheritance from one or maybe all of my older brothers. It sits on my workbench as a utility knife. Unfortunately, many years ago I broke off the Philips head part on a frozen screw.

My only Ulster (I think). Natural bone scales and by a stroke of luck, it still has the original blade etch. Wondering if @troutstalker has an early Ulster stamped Old Timer?

Some serious Wabi Sabi on these. The knife was found amongst my late father in-law's things and given to me by my wife. It had seen a lot of use. I cleaned it up and re-profiled the blade. Sharp as a razor now. It's a Keen Kutter and hard to apply a date to, but it's somewhere in the 30s to 40s. He was a combat veteran in the Pacific Theater.
The lighter is post war Germany, and likely a gift to my paternal grandfather who was very active as a journalist, writer and radio host. He was instrumental in providing morale to the troops and my dad said it was common for soldiers to stop by the house after the war and bring back gifts. Fortunately the Nazi stuff was all thrown out. My cousin got the P38 Luger, but in my grandfather's wisdom, he managed to keep the Sten Grease Gun out of his three boys reach. I'm not even kidding.
