The Cape of Cod report

I get to do a June trip to The Cape every year and dodge meteorites and fish for striped bass. The shore fishing has been tough, with few fish caught or seen, but a couple nice 'uns.

This fish ate a small pink clouser.

We also have guides lined up and one takes us out to The Rips. You can deep dredge with a squid pattern for easy catching. More fun, but tough casting, is fishing a gurgler. Incredible to see big fish boil up on a surface pattern.

Crazy rough and windy with big standing waves on the rip

The real treat is wade fishing with a guide on the flats. We found big pods of fish in shallow water.

A challange to catch fish but incredible to experience sight fishing.

Plus I broke two 8 wts high sticking while landing big fish

Plus the flats you don't have those seals to worry about...
Sad to say the seals on The Cape are a serious problem and were on the flats. We were out on Monomoy, and the seals were quite close, but none tried to take a hooked fish but did spook the pods. The small seals are rather curious and one swam right in front of me... As I was slapping the water with my rod to scare him, my line went tight, I had an eat from a nice bass but that seal didn't get involved.

We have been battling windy conditions, and overall the guides report few fish and slow catching with a couple good days mixed in.
