Mike Monsos graciously invited me to scramble into one of his secret beaver ponds. Not far as the crow flies but there's brush and bog. Mike fished an 8'4" Young taper...

Some great bamboo talk in the car. A highlight was hearing Mike talk about how he cast five different Chris Carlin 7'6" 5 weight rods built to different tapers at the Metolius cast around a few years ago.

Mike, 5 Carlins all the same length all different tapers???? I'm a huge fan of Chris Carlin, that's very cool. Ron

Yes it was five different rods, all 7'6" with the identical reels and lines loaded up at one of the Metolius gatherings. Chris had them all lined up to test cast each one and compare the different tapers. He had a Dickerson 7613, Para 14, Driggs river (?), Perfectionist and a Garrison 209 if memory serves me right (it was a long time ago and I can't find my notes). I was just getting started on my bamboo rod making and this was invaluable to feel different actions created by deliberate taper variations.
